My rather adventurous client is a jet setter who hops continents on a weekly basis and his brief to me was to create a stylish cosmopolitan weekend pad.
A terrific brief to interpret & work on, we decided to do a ‘city inspired’ look, distilling his experience and perception of his three most favourite cities: New York, London, & Sydney.
While the living & the dining are designed to capture the hip & artsy global vibe you get while exploring the streets of any of these cities, each of the 3 bedrooms is designed after one of these iconic 3 cities.
Inspired from the life-size street murals, a commissioned oversized painting by Artist Shunnal Ligade, depicting London city during the swinging 60’s sets the casual, artsy ambience of the living area.
Reinforcing the vibe is a street sign tile art in the dining area, inspired from the quintessential mosaic murals of the NYC subway.
Furnished with statement leather furniture & oversized lighting, the space features grunge concrete walls with vintage Americana splashed across.
A subway map as the focused art piece, funky accessories, neon lamp, & steel elements complete the décor.
The overall effect is bold, sleek, & industrial – a nod to the city’s gritty yet sophisticated spirit.
Weathered grey timber cladding with a vintage Sydney harbour bridge toll ticket imprinted along with doors painted in faded Bondi blue channel the laid-back beachy vibe of the city.
Sleek furniture in neutral grey tones, stylish glass light fittings, & an indulgence of linen lends an air of understated elegance to the room.
A darker shade of grey sets the background for the deep olive green, mustards, & gold gleaming through the room.
While the heavier elements - plush velvet curtains, brass lamps, a traditional rug, & polished timber contribute towards setting the tone consistent with the stiff British upper lip, a traditional interpretation of The Beatles in their iconic Sgt. Pepper suits, a whimsical print upholstered chair, and a funky chest of drawers inject small doses of fun & humour to lighten the mood.
